Three pieces so far. On Indigenous influence and the politics of what we wear, on the human experience through the eyes of Gustav Klimt, and on why fashion is, in my opinion, a form of art.
Indigenous design is absorbed into mainstream fashion narratives, without the equivalent credit, or attention to Native American political presence. To put it simply, the 'aesthetic' translates easily to the fashion community, but the context through which it exists, does not.
Read the essayThe story of a man who was ironic and complicated, as his art reflects. Whilst the Golden Phase appears jubilant, the emotion I keep returning to is sadness, and it does not come from his subjects, but the vulnerability he creates through them.
Read the essayFashion is not secondary, or a different entity to art, it is art, because it is lived, and continually changed in real time. In this instance, this occurs on the body, rather than a canvas.
